i recently went on a weekend trip to Harbin, China for Snow and Ice Festivals 哈尔滨国际冰雪节 and had so much fun. it was truly a tremendous and fantastic weekend. i was amazed by the talent and creativity of the snow sculptures and taken to another world by the ice castles in the evening. my favorite part was when i tubed down a snow castle; the thrill of it was worth the wait in the line.
Harbin also has an interesting history of Jewish-Russians who immigrated to China during the 1880-1920s during the mass emigration. much of their influence on this city city can still be seen in the architecture, restaurants, the names of the streets are in Chinese, Pinyin and Russian and there is a synogogue converted into a museum dedicated to their time spent in Harbin, the Harbin Jewish History and Cultural Exhibition.
this is a city worth visiting during its winter festivities. its beauty is beyond belief.
